Inventory (bleh)!

One of the necessary evils of being a business owner is conducting an annual inventory for tax purposes. Not really fun, we'd all rather be quilting, for sure. Ever wonder how we count all those yards of fabric? We weigh the bolts and then calculate the yardage! Much faster than measuring each yard. So, at least we still get to play with fabric, I guess. Wondering what all this means to you? It means Prairie Flower Quilt Co. will be closed Saturday, January 4th, for inventory.

Closed New Year's Day

Wishing everyone a very happy & healthy New Year. Prairie Flower Quilt Co. will be open regular hours on Tuesday, December 31 (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.). We will be closed on Wednesday, January 1st for New Year's Day.

December 17, 2013

Holiday Hours

Prairie Flower Quilt Co. will be closed Tuesday & Wednesday, Dec. 24 & 25, to celebrate Christmas with our families. We wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas!

2013 Mystery Quilt Reveal

We had a great evening with a great group of ladies at our Mystery Quilt Reveal. It's always fun to see how different each person's quilt turns out even though we used the same pattern.

Downton Abbey Tea

We hope everyone had as much fun attending our Downton Abbey Tea as we had planning and preparing for it! We never can pass up an opportunity to celebrate - and eat! Thank you to everyone who join us at the tea!
Our tea table decked out in vintage décor - don't you just love the hanging antique lamp shades and crystals? Our tea faire included cucumber tea sandwiches, chicken salad tea sandwiches, chicken puffs, lemon poppy seed & chocolate chip scones with Devonshire cream, lemon curd & strawberry jam, raspberry almond shortbread cookies, vintage hanky sugar cookies, and English toffee & chocolates. Oh, and of course, Lady Gray tea and English breakfast tea.

Our tables were dressed in vintage shabby chic with an array of china tea cups, saucers and plates, and vintage hankies for napkins.

A close-up of our vintage hanky cookies.

Many dressed for the occasion in their 1920s finery.

Hats, pearls, gloves and handbags were the fashion of the day.

 More tea fashions.

The ladies enjoying an afternoon of conversation with quilting friends.
And the best thing, everyone went home with some Downton Abbey swag!

Downton Abbey's Lady Mary

The next character featured in the Downton Abbey Collection is Lady Mary. A resolute, breathtaking beauty; Mary’s fabrics showcase both her strength and style. The first two collections will be arriving at the shop in November. So we're making plans for some fun & exciting Downton Abbey events!!! Stay tuned....

To help you get acquainted, let us introduce you to the Dowager Countess and her fabric collection. Bold and elegant, like the Dowager herself, this collection of fabrics is punctuated by prints and paisleys as big as her presence. The gray, purple,  and black colors come straight from her wardrobe, and the patterns speak to  her undeniable flair, steeped in refined tradition.

The Dowager Countess is known for her 'zingers' on the show. What is your favorite Dowager Countess quote? One of ours is "Don't be defeatist, dear. It's so middle class."

Testing A New Product - KraftTex

Sharla's been playing with a new product called KraftTex. It's a rugged paper that looks and feels like leather, but sews, cuts and washes just like fabric! It is supple, yet strong enough to use for projects that get tough wear. You can even run it through the computer printer to print fun designs. Here's the purse that Sharla made using KraftTex and printed burlap - so cute! What kind of creative things could you make with KraftTex?

Sharla's Raspberry Cookie Recipe - Mmmmmmmm!

We've had several people ask for Sharla's recipe for her raspberry cookies she had at the shop hop last weekend, so here it is.....

 Raspberry & Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

 1 cup butter, softened
 2/3 cup sugar
 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
 2 cups flour
 1/2 cup seedless raspberry jam
 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
 3/4 teaspoon almond extract
 1 teaspoon milk

In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Mix in 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. Mix in flour until dough comes together. Roll dough into 1 1/2" balls, and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Make a small hole in the center of each ball using your thumb or finger, and fill the hole with preserves. Bake for 14-18 minutes in 350 degree oven, or until lightly browned. Let cool 1 minute on cookie sheet. Mix together the confectioner's sugar, 3/4 teaspoon almond extract and milk. Drizzle over warm cookies.
